The two collaborators, Daft Punk and Leiji Matsumoto, are French and Japanese
Story
Four talented alien musicians are kidnapped by a producer who disguises them as humans and reprograms them to forget their true identities and play soulless corporate pop like The Crescendolls.. At one point a football match is shown on the monitor; the teams playing are Japan and France.
Edited from Daft Punk: Aerodynamic (2001)
The result, 2 for France and 1 for Japan, represents how many were from each country.. The number of strings on various instruments is wrong..

After listening to the CD that had the videos for "Daft Punk’s Discovery" I could only imagine what the other stories would be like
From the time I saw the music videos for "One More Time", "Aerodynamic", "Digital Love", and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" I fell in love with the story that unfolded in each video and wanted I wanted to know more. After buying the DVD and finally seeing the whole story unfold in each song, I was impressed with the talent and skills that Daft Punk and Leji Matsumoto brought to the project.
The film’s design is a nod to Leji’s design in Captain Harlock & Galaxy Express 999
It’s a refreshing change to go retro anime because the story can be told in a simple way without current CG Japanese animation. I highly recommend if you like anime, Techno, Daft Punk or just a good movie check out Interstella 5555
