A modern-day story about finding fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, sorted by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the petroleum industry, acts as a middleman between the exploration companies and the landowners. Typically, a land manager’s job is to negotiate and enter into contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, living quarters for the workers (man camps), assemble the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and mediator.
Landman is another in a long line for Taylor Sheridan
This has everything you want in a good series: plenty of drama, action, twists, even a little comedy, etc. It’s obviously beautifully written because everything Sheridan does is great, but it also has an amazing cast. It stars the incredible Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Ali Larter, and Demi Moore, among others.
The same goes for Hamm
Billy Bob Thornton was born to play this role, he is absolutely amazing here. I would be shocked if he doesn’t get nominated for an Emmy for his performance here. Not only is it beautifully written and acted, but it’s beautifully shot too.
It looks like it’s going to be a long time coming, and I’m here for it
Sheridan has so many great shows under his belt and Landman is among the best of them.
